New Delhi: VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) tonight (Jan 15, 2005) approached the President, Prime Minister and Tamil Nadu Governor seeking their intervention to prevent any move by the Tamil Nadu Government to takeover the Kanchi Mutt through an Ordinance.
Terming any such move as "unconstitutional", senior VHP leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore and Praveen Togadia said in a letter that preventing the bid would be "consistent with the principle that the secular state shall not interfere in the religious affairs of any religion."
"The Hindu society hereby lodges its strong protest with your high offices against the said move of the Tamil Nadu Government in the form of an Ordinance and counts on justice from your learned selves," they said.
