The RSS today warned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa of an Ayodhya-like agitation if her government continued its ??witchhunt?? against the Kanchi Shankaracharya, Jayendra Saraswati. The warning was issued at the concluding session of the RSS? two-day ??chintan baithak?? here today.
Talking to mediapersons, RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said it was up to Jayalalithaa to see to it that the Shankaracharya issue does not snowball into an Ayodhya-like agitation. He added that the BJP and VHP would launch separate agitations against the Jayalalithaa government from tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, immediately after his arrival here, BJP president L.K. Advani said it was in the interest of all concerned that the Kanchi case investigation is shifted out of Tamil Nadu.
Asked how it could be done, Madhav drew a parallel with the Zaheera Sheikh case, saying the parties concerned could do it on similar lines, if need be, by approaching the Supreme Court.
Coming down heavily on Jayalalithaa, Madhav said it would be an understatement to call the Tamil Nadu CM?s action as ??dictatorship??. ??It was expected that the SC ruling would have a sobering effect, but that doesn?t seem to be happening and hence, the VHP and the BJP are launching their agitation.??
Asked if the Shankaracharya has sought help from the Parivar, Madhav said: ??Our representatives have met him and we would do whatever is possible.?? In reply to a question, he said, ??let the court decide whether he is guilty or not. But this kind of treatment to him isn?t proper.??
Besides RSS executive led by K.S. Sudarshan, H.V. Seshadri and Mohan Bhagwat, VHP leaders Ashok Singhal, Pravin Togadia and BJP?s Murli Manohar Joshi and L.K.
Advani participated in the parleys.
