LONDON,JANUARY 11: Britain's Hindu Council today backed the Metropolitan Police Service's call for all friends and relatives of people who have returned safely from Asia to contact them. Since the disaster hit the region on December 26, callers have contacted the Force's Casualty Bureau to report that they have yet to hear from a friend or family member who was visiting the area. However, many holiday-makers will now be safe and well. To keep the Met's records up-to-date, deputy assistant commissioner John Yates today asked the individuals concerned, or friends and family members, to contact them. He said: "In the relief of knowing that a friend or relative is safe, people who originally contacted us may not have remembered to let us know. "In order that Foreign and Commonwealth Office records are up-to-date, we would urge the people who originally called us to ring again." Contact the emergency telephone line is 020 7008 0000. This number should not be used for seeking travel advice, which can be found on the Foreign Office website at www.fco.gov.uk or by calling 0870 6060290.
