Chennai, January 3: The Madras High Court today granted bail to Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi in the Radhakrishnan assault case but the seer will have to remain in judicial custody as he is yet to get bail in Sankararaman murder case.

The seer, who was arrested in connection with the murder case on November 11, had filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court in this case, which is coming up for hearing on January 6.

While granting the bail and directing the seer to furnish a personal bond for Rs 25,000 and two sureties for like sum, justice R Balasubramaniam also said further conditions would depend on the outcome of the bail plea that is coming up in the apex court.

Justice R Balasubramaniam had earlier reserved his orders after hearing the arguments from senior Supreme Court advocate K T S Tulsi, appearing on behalf of the prosecution, and the seer's counsel M Sathyanarayanan.

The seer was formally arrested in the assault case on November 23 while he was in judicial custody following his arrest in the Sankararaman murder case on November 11.
