NEW DELHI, JAN. 4. The Tamil Nadu Government has opposed in the Supreme Court grant of bail to the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, in the Sankararaman murder case, in which he was arrested on November 11 last. The case comes up for further hearing on Thursday, January 6.
On December 17, the apex court issued notice to the Tamil Nadu Government on a special leave petition filed by the Acharya against a judgment of the Madras High Court dated December 8 dismissing his bail petition.
In its reply filed today, the State Government opposed bail citing the apex court ruling in the Pappu Yadav case. The prosecution is also expected to keep ready the case diary and produce the details of the bank accounts from which money was allegedly withdrawn to pay the assailants; the confessional statements of the accused and the retraction thereof.
The State Government is also likely to file an appeal tomorrow against the Madras High Court order granting bail to the Acharya in the Radhakrishnan assault case.
