KANCHIPURAM,JANUARY 15: Police action against the Shankaracharyas of Kanchi has hit Pongal celebrations in Kanchipuram. For the first time ever, the auspicious harvest festival of Pongal is hardly being celebrated in the temple town. According to sources, the temporarily appointed manager of the Kanchi mutt, Mahadeva Iyer today received summons to appear before the Special Investigation Team on Saturday. "Kanchipuram means Shankaracharya and now that he is not here people are very depressed and sad," said Kameshwaran, a devotee.
