Shankaracharya of Swarna Valli Mutt calls on Seer

Kalavai: In the first visit by a religious head to Kalavai, where Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswathi is now staying after his release on bail, the Shankaracharya of Swarna Valli Mutt in Karnataka, Gangadharendra Saraswathi, called on the Seer at the Mutt's Brindavan complex in Kalavai.

The Shankaracharya, who arrived Kalavai late last night, has been performing the traditional Srichakra pooja since this morning (Jan 14, 2005), Mutt sources said.

Gangadharendra Saraswathi is a disciple of Jayendra Saraswathi and had taken 'diksha' from him.

Jayendra Saraswathi performed the Chandramouliswara pooja in the morning and is presently preparing for the special Sankranti pooja, usually performed on Pongal day, they said.

Devotees continued to visit the Mutt since this morning to seek the blessing of the Seer on Pongal Day.

The pooja will conclude at 1300 hrs (IST).
